The GLEN RUMSEY DANCE PROJECT is interested in bringing innovative dance performance works to audiences with a focus on political, societal, environmental, theoretical, and cultural issues. Keeping them engaged without words, but with the athleticism of the performers and the visually stunning theatrical elements of costume and decor.

Some words from Glen:
In 2005 the Glen Rumsey Dance Project was launched with its first evening length work, ignored in my heaven commissioned by Claire Montgomery and Location One Gallery.

I was not expecting the response I received and was pleasantly surprised by the press and excitement it stirred. Jennifer Dunning from The New York Times wrote, "It is a world complete unto itself, with its own crazy logic and dazzingly imaginative designs…" And Gia Kourlas from Time Out New York called it “a fantastical suite of dances in which Rumsey’s vivid imagination is brought to life with the help of 15 wonderful performers…” We sold out every single show and because of our popularity, Location 1 added another performance to the run which, I am happy to report, sold out within hours.

What has happened since has been quite interesting. Choreographer Todd Williams and I created Exquisite Corpse, which Susan Reiter from the Dance View Times found "a modern-day Dadaist surprise, and a fruitful collaboration between two impressively individualistic dancers — Williams and former Merce Cunningham dancer Glen Rumsey." We performed Exquisite Corpse during Todd's season at The Ailey Citigroup Theater and for a Dancers Responding to AIDS benefit in Times Square.

Then, Dance Theater Workshop invited me to be a part of their Studio Series — a Creative Residency program where Glen Rumsey Dance Project receives 100 hours of free rehearsal space and a minimally produced showing in their Studios at the culmination. We began creating the new work in September and our showing is scheduled for March 22 & 23, 2007. In mid-November GRDP was invited to perform as part Chez Bushwick’s AMBUSH, an evening of dance produced in an old nut factory (how appropriate) in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick. And most recently I was invited back to Location 1 to perform in a multimedia installation in their main gallery called In the Sky, by Nicole and Leeza Albuni.

The word is out and Glen Rumsey Dance Project is generating buzz, but we all know it takes money to get and keep these things going.
We have begun to apply for funds from Foundations and Corporations, and to that end we have garnered some assistance through the DTW Sponsored Artist program, but we’re looking for a few angels to help us make this happen and get this company off the ground.

We invite you to help us make more work, and see what we have not yet discovered. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help underwrite the Glen Rumsey Dance Project, and all of our creative possibilities.

Your gift will be greatly appreciated and may be made payable to Dance Theater Workshop, Inc., earmarked for "The Dance Theater Workshop member project of Glen Rumsey Dance Project," and sent to:
